Revitalization

Some of the projects our work crew does include wheelchair ramps, railings, stairs, gutters, ceiling or wall repairs, installing grab bars, windows, needed porch repairs, minor plumbing repairs, and more. Each project we've done has not only helped the recipients, but also our crew who worked on it. We are currently doing home repairs on the east side of Detroit. Our crew members in our transitional work program are learning or growing in their understanding of the dignity of work and in work skills and life skills as they begin or continue employment under the supervision of skilled volunteer project leaders. The transitional work program is for unemployed or underemployed Detroit residents. They are climbing themselves as they contribute to helping others climb. Most of them are trying to get back on their feet or to start their adult lives. Most have had major obstacles to overcome. They benefit from meeting with our case manager monthly as they start working, rise to new challenges, and have the opportunity to become employable for full-time work, leading to a better future for themselves and their families.
