Through Jesus Christ our Redeemer who inspires hope, Firm Foundations of Hope transforms and empowers east-side Detroit residents by affording the dignity of work to the structurally unemployed, by doing home repairs for the poor, and by encouraging the abundant life to which Jesus Christ invites us.
Helping People Climb
We've completed some projects recently and, having moved on to indoor work for the winter, are currently doing a lot of drywall. Each project we've done has not only helped the recipients, but also our crew who worked on it. Our crew members are learning or growing in their understanding of the dignity of work along with work skills as they begin or continue employment under the supervision of skilled volunteer project leaders, climbing themselves as they contribute to helping others climb.
We've had two people this year hired on at other jobs, which is success for us. We built a wheelchair ramp on Maxwell Street, tore down a dilapidated and dangerous garage on Parker Street, poured a concrete slab for a safer walking surface, are repaired rotted soffit and fascia boards, are repairing a leaking porch roof, and have installed a concrete step where one was needed for safe entry and exit. We've had a great summer, and look to great things ahead with a growing team!
Firm Physical Foundations
Firm Foundations of Hope provides work for unemployed or underemployed individuals in our community, while providing no- or low-cost home repairs for low-income households in our lower east side Detroit community. We offer a mentoring program for the members of the work crew, who are supervised by skilled volunteers and receive on-the-job training. Firm Foundations of Hope creates an environment that fosters growth in life skills that form the foundation for ongoing success.
Firm Spiritual Foundations
Firm Foundations of Hope exists because of the vision given to the founder by our Lord Jesus Christ, who made His plan known and continues to make His plan become reality. Central to our mission is the pastoral and spiritual care for all in our community. Our AlleyGroup, which began in the alley behind Firm Foundations of Hope headquarters, is one avenue of sharing the love of Jesus Christ and advancing the Kingdom of God. The AlleyGroup is especially for seekers, people with questions who just want to know more about Christianity, or those who are beginning to follow the Lord. One-on-one pastoral counseling or prayer are also available, just give us a call or send us a message!
